Our Story

It all began with a passion to see homeless, destitute and abandoned children discover their God given value and be given a chance at life - an opportunity to be educated, to learn to express themselves and to develop their potential to be all that they could be in life.

In early 1998, a team of volunteers from the Greater Grace church, motivated by the love of God, began to work with a group of street kids with a simple literacy program, in the hope that it would give them a bright future.

The children were of different ages and communities and had only known one kind of life – street life! If education was anyone’s dream, it was a distant reality. Living a mere hand to mouth existence, the idea of going to school was simply unthinkable. This outreach to underprivileged kids went on for a few years after which, the vision expanded to starting our own Children’s Home where children could be taught the greater disciplines of being family. So the first batch of boys moved into their new, rented home called the Karuna Sharan Home for orphaned and destitute children. The living room and garage of the leased bungalow was transformed into the school classroom during the day.

Over the next five years, the Karuna family grew as more orphans were taken in. During this time, the vision to build our own Karuna Sharan Children’s Home for 150 orphan boys, and the plans to put up an English, SSC school for the Karuna children began to unfold and become a reality.

We are grateful to our Network of Caring friends, headed by Jim and Nancy Dornan and other likeminded, believing friends who partnered with us to make this dream turn into a reality.

Karuna Welfare’s, ‘Ambassador High School’ building was completed by the year 2006. The Karuna orphan children became the core students of TAHS. In the following year, the Karuna Children’s Home was built on the same campus as the school. TAHS had also opened its doors to children from all sections of the community to avail of the best opportunities at learning.

Our fervent prayer and desire is to see transformation take place in the life of every student as they are imparted the highest, God given values that we believe could impact an entire generation. Our teachers are encouraged to look at their ‘calling’ to teach, as a high and holy one. A happy and encouraging environment fosters healthy development in all other areas.

AT TAHS we never stop learning, because we believe life never stops teaching!
